Bio
Praised for his exciting musical interpretations and engaging personality, Dr. Nick Hoy has attracted the attention of hundreds of thousands as a live-streamer and violinist. Dr. Hoy’s passion for the violin began at the age of seven with the Suzuki method in Chattanooga, TN. He has since accomplished and pursued an extensive diverse performing career appearing in nationwide concerts.
Dr. Hoy received his Bachelors of Music degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 2015, and his Masters of music in 2017 at Florida State University. He has recently graduated from the University of Georgia with a doctoral degree in Musical Arts.
Dr. Hoy has performed in many orchestras around the southeast. Recently he was appointed the concertmaster of the Rome, Symphony. He was concertmaster of the Alpharetta Symphony, and principal 2nd violin with Georgia Philharmonic for the 2017-2018 concert season. He has previously played with Space Coast Symphony as principal 2nd violin while completing his Master’s, as well as, appearances as a soloist in Alpharetta Symphony and at Florida State University.
An advocate of chamber music, he is a founding member of The Secret Sits Chamber Music Ensemble (Athens, GA) and the Figment Chamber Music Ensemble (Chattanooga, TN). With live performances, concerts, and opportunities becoming more scarce at the time of his graduation, Dr. Hoy has helped to build a community centered around the violin on different live-streaming platforms as an advocate of classical music. Dr. Hoy has been able to engage hundreds of thousands of individuals through his live-streams and violin performances on the platforms of Reddit and Twitch under the username newbaroque.
Dr. Hoy plays on a fine Italian violin made in 1925 made by Luigi Contavalli, and a bow made by Émile François Ouchard.
