Dr. Nick Hoy is a celebrated violinist known for his captivating musical interpretations and warm charisma, capturing the hearts of audiences worldwide both as a live-streamer and a performer. His lifelong passion for the violin began at the age of seven when he studied the Suzuki method in Chattanooga, TN.
In 2015, Dr. Hoy earned a Bachelors of Music degree from Middle Tennessee State University, and in 2017, he completed his Masters of Music at Florida State University. He also recently completed his doctoral degree in Musical Arts from the University of Georgia.
Throughout his career, Dr. Hoy’s talent has graced numerous orchestras across the southeast, earning him accolades and respect. Notably, he was appointed concertmaster of the Rome Symphony in 2021, and he previously held roles as concertmaster of the Alpharetta Symphony and principal 2nd violin with the Georgia Philharmonic during the 2017-2018 concert season. Additionally, his artistry has led him to solo performances with the Alpharetta Symphony, Florida State University, and Rome Symphony.
A passionate advocate for chamber music, Dr. Hoy is a founding member of two ensembles: The Secret Sits Chamber Music Ensemble in Athens, GA, and the Figment Chamber Music Ensemble in his hometown of Chattanooga, TN.
As live performances and concert opportunities became more scarce during his graduation period, Dr. Hoy turned his attention to cultivating a vibrant community centered around the violin on various live-streaming platforms. His dedication to classical music has resonated to a large community on Reddit and Twitch under the username “newbaroque,” making classical music accessible and engaging for a diverse audience.
When Dr. Hoy takes the stage, he wields the soul-stirring sounds of a fine Italian violin crafted in 1925, accompanied by a bow meticulously created by Émile François Ouchard.
